How do you Hide?
As humans, we are always chasing a feeling. Usually a good feeling. When we experience feelings we want to avoid, we hide. In coach-speak, we call this Buffering. You know about buffering. It’s when you want to watch a movie on Netflix but the little circle just keeps circling. Life is on hold. If you wait long enough, the buffering ends and the movie picks up where it left off. The same thing happens in life. When we hide, or buffer, nothing goes away, as soon as we are done hiding, life continues right where it left off. There is no running from negative emotions.
So what does this buffering look like in real life? Here are some examples:
What we say:
I need a break
I want to escape
It’s too much
I need a vacation
I’m just done
What it really is:
Wanting to stop feeling so much
The desire to be numb
What it looks like:
Overdrinking
Overeating
Overthinking
Yelling
Shopoping
Gambling
Attending to electronics more than to people
Overworking
Over exercising
Sleeping too much
Promiscuity
Pornography
There are so many options out there to run away.
There is another way. I teach another way. A way where you are more aware of your feelings and have the tools to choose how you feel about EVERYTHING. You can live in calm confidence. You learn to respond to the world around you rather than react.
Imagine what life would feel like then.
So much fun!!
With Love and Joy,
Sheila
